EFT Set Up Statement

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

“Even though I …………., I deeply and completely love and accept myself” is the standard set up statement from the EFT founder, Gary Craig. Normally we repeat a set up statement 3 times while tapping on the SOH (Side of Hand) point.

As I mention in the last post, Simple Tapping (EFT), we just fill in what distresses us at the current moment into the first half of the set up statement. Unlike the first half of a set up statement and the reminder phrases, the second half of a set up statement mainly focus on something positive to have a sense of self-love and self-acceptance in order to support ourselves for the change we want to make.

Although I think Gary’s standard set up statement is the ultimate set up statement for most cases, I did find quite a lot of people found it hard to just speak those words out and had intense resistance against it at the beginning. Besides, flexibility does help creating a more interesting process and some good results, too.

If you find yourself have some kinds of resistance toward the standard set up statement, there are some more gentle/soften words for you to use below:

  • “Even though I …………., I choose to deeply and completely love and accept myself.”

    • “Even though I …………., I know I am ok/safe at this moment.”

    • “Even though I …………., I (choose to) accept how I feel right now.”

    • “Even though I …………., I choose to/am open to the possiblilties to get better.”

As you can see, the words “choose to” is a very powerful way bringing us closer to the acceptance. You can also use any positive words comes up in your mind, too.

But why the first half and the second half of the set up statement are both supposed to start with "I"? The answer is in the Why Starts With "I"?

Hope the sharing helps and more sharing about tapping will be in the new post soon. ❤️‍

[🛑Cautions: If there are some strong feelings shown up during tapping, just keep tapping on the points until you feel better and it normally will. If you have had some traumatic past experience or received any therapies from a psychologist or psychiatrist, seeking for help from a certified EFT practitioner is highly recommended.
